IfA's Ironmen

On October 15, IfA postdoctoral fellow Jana Pittichová and astronomer Nick Kaiser each completed the Ford Ironman 2005 World Championship in Kona on the island of Hawaii. Eighteen hundred competitors from more than 50 countries competed in this 140-mile triathlon, which includes a 2.4-mile ocean swim, 112-mile bike race, and 26.2-mile run. Pittichová's overall time of 12:16:31 included a time of 57:30 in the ocean swim, making her the fifth woman out of the water. Kaiser's overall time of 11:27:23 included a marathon run of less than four hours. Congratulations to them both!
